My goal was to see wild horses at Cumberland Island with our granddaughter. I wanted to share with her my love of nature, encourage her to take pictures, and enjoy being the “special one” on a trip with us. It was picturee perfect day and the best stress relief for me.
We discovered that her normal boundless energies let her keep up with us on her 3 hour walk. Experiencing the sights through her eyes will be a fabulous memory forever. Actually, her best part of the day was jumping on the hotel bed, an exciting new experience..
As we came back to the harbor we experienced the most magnificient sunset. Everyone on the boat dropped their belongings to pick up their camers to snap the sky that had lit like the 4th of July. A sight that truly might be a once in a lifetime kodak event. We all can learn to notice those “awe” moments around us and appreciate the beauty of a flower, a tree with sunlight filtering through its branches, our families enjoying time together. Caregivers everywhere learn to catch those moments where you can breathe easily, that restore your energy, heal your soul, and create peace and tranquility in your heart. Snap a picture in your head to keep it there for the times you need it.
We were fortunate enough to catch a sunrise on our way home. Time to reflect on a good trip, regroup for the new year, and count our blessings. An exciting part of our trips together is to find unique setting that include benches, chairs, settings that invite someone to sit a spell, feel the breeze, see the colors, hear the sounds, time to chill out. Research is showing us that we need these moments to decrease stress in our daily lives. Stress that, if we don’t recognize the symptoms of constantly “running from the tiger” we weaken our immune systems and cause our bodies harm.
